Judge Kerrigan brings a unique skill set to her mediation, arbitration and ADR practice. She served 10 years as a Civil District Court Judge in Harris County Texas, 24 years as an active trial lawyer and had experience prior to going on the bench as an arbitrator and mediator. Her experiences as a lawyer, as a judge and as a negotiator are the basis for her ability to bring the parties to a resolution through mediation and her commitment to make timely decisions in an arbitration. Additionally, Judge Kerrigan has significant background in science and medicine having worked as a Registered Nurse and also having pursued her interest in science in her law practice and while on the bench culminating in her invitation to participate in the National Courts and Science Institute -2015 Los Alamos Judicial Science Program. She also is a Senior Fellow in ASTAR-, the Advanced Science and Adjudicative Resource Program. Perhaps more importantly, Judge Kerrigan understands the litigation process and is able to communicate, motivate and educate people in a non-adversarial yet effective manner.
She received her J.D. from the University of Houston School of Law where she served as Chief Justice of the Advocates and received her undergraduate BSN at Boston University. Her law practice focused on civil litigation including commercial, product liability, professional malpractice, construction and insurance coverage cases.
She began her practice at Norton Rose Fulbright LLP where she became a partner in 1992 In 1997 she was a founding partner of Werner Kerrigan & Ayers LLP.
Judge Kerrigan was named Trial Judge of the year in 2015 by the Texas Association of Civil Trial and Appellate Specialists. (TACTAS) She is an active a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates has served on various committees of the State Bar of Texas, including on the Judicial Ethics Committee State Bar of Texas Judicial Section, 2015-present, and as Chair of Pattern Jury Charge Vol.1. She was the first woman President of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel and has been active in various other bar organizations, including ABOTA where she served as President of the Houston Chapter.
Judge Kerrigan is Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in personal injury trial law and is a frequent speaker at CLE programs. She is a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum. A complete resume is available on request.
